چکیده

For a long time, the equivalent ionospheric slab thickness ? has remained in shadow of main parameters: maximum density, NmF2 (or critical frequency, foF2), and total electron content. Empirical global models have been developed for these two parameters. Recently, several appeared concurrently. This paper compares Neustrelitz model (NSTM), with ?(IRI-Plas) IRI-Plas model, ?(Appr) approximation constructed along 30° E meridian using data from ionosondes. The choice best conformity observational was made, which used to study effects space weather during magnetic storms March 2012. included: (1) transition negative disturbances at high latitudes positive ones low latitudes, (2) super-fountain effect, had revealed explained previous papers, (3) deepening trough. efficiency studying confirmed. advantage is its closeness real data. ability determine foF2 without NSTM insufficient role due accuracy decreasing increasing latitude.

MODELING, PREDICTION AND FORECAST OF THE IONOSPHERIC CRITICAL FREQUENCY foF2

The temporal variations of the ionospheric critical frequency foF2 is a typical example of a time series in which deterministic variations at various time scales and nonstationary stochastic variations are involved. In a series of journal and conference papers we have obtained various modelling, prediction and forecast algorithms for foF2 variations over Europe, based on data from about 15 iono...

Ionospheric height variations observed by ionosondes along magnetic meridian and plasma bubble onsets

Since October 2004, a Frequency Modulated– Continuous Wave (FM–CW) ionosonde chain along the magnetic meridian has been operating in Southeast Asia, in Kototabang (0.2 S, 100.3 E), Indonesia, Chumphon (10.7 N, 99.4 E), Thailand, and Chiang Mai (18.8 N, 98.9 E), Thailand. Variations in the virtual height of the bottomside of the F-region (hF ) at 2.5 MHz were analyzed, in order to study the day-...

Observations by the CUTLASS radar, HF Doppler, oblique ionospheric sounding, and TEC from GPS during a magnetic storm

Multi-diagnostic observations, covering a significant area of northwest Europe, were made during the magnetic storm interval (28–29 April 2001) that occurred during the High Rate SolarMax IGS/GPS-campaign. HF radio observations were made with vertical sounders (St. Petersburg and Sodankyla), oblique incidence sounders (OIS), on paths from Murmansk to St. Petersburg, 1050 km, and Inskip to Leice...

Variation of ionospheric slab thickness over South Africa

Ionospheric slab thickness is defined as the ratio of TEC to maximum electron density of the F-region (NmF2), proportional to the square of the F2-layer critical frequency (foF2). It is an important parameter in that it is linearly correlated with scale height of the ionosphere, which is related to electron density profile. It also reflects variation of the neutral temperature. Therefore, ionos...
